Donette T. Jones

I was born in NY city, I graduated with my Associates degree (Nursing) in 1995, I’ve worked in home health, a medical-surgical unit, a pediatric rehabilitation hospital, telemetry, PACU and the emergency room.  I found my “nursing legs” in the ER and I will always cherish the many memories I have of the great medical team I worked with while there.  I then became employed with a private insurance group and began working with the community health group and employee health.  One thing that remains constant in my nursing journey and life is change.  Human connection is the “thread” of life. I am a daughter, sister, wife, Mom, step-Mom, Aunt, friend and now Yaya (Grandma) to two amazing little human beings.  I continued my nursing education in 2016 and received my BSN from South University and continued on to earn a Masters of Nursing Education in 2020.  My favorite moments in my career are always centered around the feeling I get when I have helped someone understand something or feel hopeful about something they were stressed about.

I was born in Washington DC, graduated with my Associates degree (Nursing) 1993. I worked in home health, medical-surgical unit, telemetry, adult rehabilitation, occupational health unit, school nursing, community health nursing, and nursing education. I found my “nursing legs” in community health where I learned successful healthcare occurs outside of the hospital. Hospitals are great for acute, urgent situations, but true healthcare occurs when patients return to their homes to make the necessary changes to one’s life to become healthy. The individual desire to do better, make changes to become healthier, and learn to manage chronic conditions is the key to health and wellness; it is our mission to help individuals to do that. I am a daughter, a sister, an auntie, a mentor, a mom and a caregiver. I have continued my education to include a Master’s degree in Nursing Education and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education. I remain as interested, excited and  committed today as I was 30+ years ago as a new nurse. I have seen both professionally and personally how self-advocacy, knowledge, and grace to accept that humans are not perfect is needed, but we have to stay in the game of health and wellness to feel better, do better, and be better.
